Have you ever gone on a weight loss journey and had a freak out moment because...
The scale went up even though you were doing everything right.
Or you self-sabotaged and ate a whole pizza after you were so good all week.
Or you felt your motivation drop and couldn't figure out how to get it back.
The reason we freak out is because we feel these things are not supposed to happen and it leaves us feeling totally out of control.
The fix? We've got to set different expectations from the start and go in knowing certain hard truths about every weight loss journey so we don't lose our shit and quit the second something goes amiss.
When you anticipate these twists and turns, they become less scary and you gain the ability to anticipate and react accordingly.
With that, here are 5 hard truths you need to know as you embark on this journey:
Remember the more extreme results come from more extreme tactics, so sustainable results have to come from sustainable habits, which do take longer.
Water weight, hormonal fluctuations, and even just a day of eating higher salt or more carbs is going to cause this at some point in your journey. Don’t freak out. Keep going.
If you’re relying on it, your results will be limited and unreliable too. Instead of chasing after something so finite, dig your heels in and commit to consistent action whether you ‘feel like it’ or not. Your goals (and you) are worth it.
Measuring your efforts with a pass/fail is a recipe for disaster; no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It'll set you up to feel deprived, overwhelmed, and discouraged any time you're... ya know... human. Go in with the goal of only being 80-90% 'on plan'.
