We all know the new years resolution stats: 80% are ditched by February! And because of this, there's a growing skepticism around even setting a resolution.
You also have coaches (myself included) saying we shouldn't wait for a new year to set goals and reach for the things we want in life.
While that may be true, there's an undeniable shift in the air around January 1st. There's the hope of new beginnings, an anticipation of the year to come, and a beautiful projection of what life could look like 365 days in the future.
Instead of denying that, let's give ourselves permission to lean into it and set some resolutions for ourselves, but in a way that actually sets us up to succeed.... Here's how:
In other words, instead of saying, "I want to lose 20 pounds" say "I want to become someone who makes time for workouts."
We set ourselves up for failure and disappointment when we make big sweeping promises like "I'm DONE with carbs!" or "I'm NEVER going to skip a workout!"
Instead, anticipate that you'll have off days, and decide that when that happens, you'll keep on trucking anyways.
What kept you from reaching (or maintaining) your goals last year? And the year before? And the year before that?
Was it not having enough time? Maybe your resolution should be less about losing weight and more about taking control of your calendar, or saying no to things that don't serve you.
Is the problem that you keep starting January with a super restrictive, quick fix diet and you need to find a plan with a more sustainable solution to habit change (cough cough - like my programs - cough cough)?
Whatever the case may be, get to the bottom of why your resolutions haven't worked out in the past and start there.
BONUS TIP: HIRE A COACH! Maybe at the end of the day what you really need is someone there, supporting you, guiding you, holding you accountable. Maybe you need someone who can give you a super doable plan that actually fits your lifestyle. Maybe you need someone who can help you navigate through the pitfalls, the struggles, the times when you want to give up.
If that sounds like what you need, that's exactly what I'm here to do. And the best part is, with my 5-day weight loss challenge coming up on January 4th, you get to take a test drive of my coaching completely for free.
